Pony Trekking

Pony trekking can be found at centres all over the National Park, the closest to Callander being Rednock Farm, about 20 minutes drive from Callander on the Glasgow road.

Callander is an ideal base for hill walking in and around the Southern Highlands. The nearest hill, only a short drive away, is Ben Ledi, very popular with visitors and locals alike. There is a good path from the south end of Loch Lubnaig. A number of Munros (hills above 3000 feet) are within an hour’s drive. They include Ben Lomond on the Bonnie Banks, Ben Vorlich at Loch Earn, Ben More and Stob Binnein, Ben Lui and the Ben Lawers range of mountains. Slightly further afield are the Arrochar Alps and the famous Glen Coe Mountains, which includes the Aonach Eagach Ridge. Lower and closer to Callander are Ben Venue and the Ochil Hills with various routes to its tops.

For these walks you need to be properly equipped but advice can be sought from your host, Janice, who has climbed all the Munros and Corbetts (hills between 2500 feet and 3000 feet) in Scotland.

Cycling and Mountain Biking

Callander has many safe, traffic free cycling tracks which take you around the countryside. Cycle hire is available in the town.

Fishing is a very popular pastime in the Trossachs with three fishing rivers within a 2 mile radius and five of six good trout lochs within 20 minutes drive of Callander. Fishing permits available locally.
